from the back of the dvd: “Music is everywhere, all you have to do is listen.”
There is music in the wind and sky. Can you hear it? And there’s help. Can you feel it? The boy called August Rush can. The music mysteriously draws him, penniless and alone to New York City in a quest to find, somehow and someway; the parents separated from him years earlier. And along the way he may also find the musical genius hidden within him. Experience the magic of this rhapsodic epic of the heart starring Freddie Highmore as August, Keri Russell, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Terrance Howard and Robin Williams.
” I believe in music the same way some people believe in fairy tales. “ – August
I loved the music in this movie soooooo much! All though it, it really helped set the mood in places, and made you hopes soar in others. And it has a old song I really like called “Moondance.”

How to ditch your fairy.
by Justine Larbalestier
From the book: “I have a parking fairy. I’m fourteen years old. I can’t drive. I don’t like cars and I have a parking fairy. Rochelle gets a clothes-shopping fairy and is always well-attired; I get a parking fairy and always smell faintly of gasoline. How fair is that? I love clothes and shopping too. Yes, I have a fine family (except for my sister, ace photographer Nettles, and even she’s tolerable sometimes) and yes, Rochelle’s family is malodorous. She does deserve some kind of compensation. But why couldn’t I have, I don’t know, a good-hair fairy? Or, not even that doos, a loose-change-finding fairy. Lots of people have that fairy. Rochelle’s dad, Sandra’s cousin, Mom’s best friend’s sister. I’d wholly settle for a loose-change fairy.”

From the back of the box:
Things are different for the Pontipee men now that big brother Adam has fetched a bride and brought her to their cabin. Indeed, the unwed brothers are so inspired; they raid the town and carry off brides of their own.
Like a favorite flannel shirt, (yeah, it really says that.) everything fits right in this rugged whoop for joy directed by Stanley Donen, choreographed by Michael Kidd, and featuring an exhilarating Gene Depaul/Johnny Mercer score that won an Academy Award.
Jane Powell and Howard Keel star, supported by a cast of buckskinned dancers and petticoated danseuses. (means girls I guess.) And what stepping! The barn raising sequence alone, full of back flipping, plank leaping athleticism, leaves you with a daylong smile. “Bless yore beautiful hide”, all you brides and brothers.
This is Jenny’s first favorite picks, and I have to say I really liked this movie.

Ok, here is my second catchup episode, where we discuss gifts, books, games and activities for the holidays and those cold winter days coming up! Darcy wanted some book recommendations, so here are the links I promised:
Anne McCaffrey’s Dragonriders of Pern Series- I recommend starting with the Harper Hall Trilogy – Menolly is a great intro character.
Marion Zimmer Bradley’s Darkover Series – I recommend the Darkover Chronology order – also a good list here
Lois McMaster Bujold’s Vorkosigan Series – I would say they are safe for younger teens until reaching the book where Mark is introduced – Brothers in Arms and Mirror Dance, and after those they are pretty safe again. There is a good amount of R-rated torture in the two aforementioned books, so I would skip those for now. The rest of the series has rough moments, but they work in the story setting, in my opinion.

hi hi guys!!!
I wanted to write about this for a long time. this is one of my favorite comics, this and Girl Genius of course. And cool thing about Nodwick? My Uncle Jerry lives out by where he is, so i got to meet him twice!! Once here at a Ren faire and once in K C. He’s really cool.
Here is how the website describes it. Then i’ll try, okay?
The story of Nodwick is a classic tale of boy meets party, boy hires on with party, boy becomes injured, crushed, punctured, smelted, flattened, stapled, eaten, and occasionally used to carry stuff.
A young henchman seeks his fortune and unwittingly contracts himself to a trio of adventurers who constantly rewrite the book on legendary exploits (mostly under chapters beginning with the word “don’t”). They have defeated evil tyrants, slain rampaging monsters, looted ruined cities (often doing the ruining themselves, saving time), and generally brought adventure to those who would otherwise live peaceful lives. No job is too small for these heroes, primarily because they are often broke, bored, or both. Unfortunately, the outcome of their adventures is rarely positive for anyone involved, and many are the hamlets that would sooner face an outbreak of intestinal warts than lodge these ‘heroes” for a fortnight.

hi guys,
well its over. finally! okay i normally dont talk this stuff, but wow its so important what happened. now i dont know alot about this stuff, but ill tell you what i got out of all of it okay? there’s people grandpa’s age who dont understand how we elect our presidents, so i dont feel so bad.
okay first off. it went on waaaaaaaay too long. i mean i was 11 when it started. it takes that long to get a president? seriously? wow, maybe we are doing it wrong then. i mean i know not a lot of people like president bush. i don’t, but think about it. he has two years to sit up there while we go about picking the next person, that’s got to suck. it would be like the last kid being picked for dodge ball, knowing at the end no one wants him on their team.
