Today i am going to review the second of me and jenny’s, girls night in DVDS.
sorry to all the dudes out there, this is a chick flix, so deal. actually this one is good for anyone, even kids! so here we go…..
From the back cover:
One fateful night in 1959, thomas reily is born at the exact moment a bus accident claims the lives of Harrison, a frustrated singer dogged by stage fright. milo, a two bit burglar with a guilty conscience, julia, a young woman who has left the love of her life get away; and penny, a single mom who must leave her kids to work the night shift. soon, the four find themselves earthbound and permanently tied to thomas. a quartet of loving friends only he can see and hear, but when they realize that their present is disrupting the boy’s life, they make the heartbreaking decision to to become invisible to him.
twenty seven years later, thomas has grown into a hard driving executive who is driving away his girl friend. finally, thw four souls learn why they are all connected to thomas. though him, they each have one chance to resolve the unfinished business in their lives. to do this, they must temporarily take over his body, but a doubting thomas wants no part of it. the thing is, he doesnt have a choice!
okay, this is my new most favorite movie! yea, i know its a older one. but so?? its really good!!! first off you see all of the main people, all them have thier own stories but once they get on the bus, all of that becomes one bigger story. but i’m getting ahead of myself.
the first part of the movie we meet everyone, one by one. first there is harrison, he loves to sign and is really good at it. but he is shy like me, and every time he gets the chance to go on a stage he gets too scared and has to leave. i can sooooooo relate, im shy and same way. but im getting better.
next is milo, he’s the funniest of them all. he is a burglar and thief. he’s usually not that good at it, but he has reasons why he needs to. the last time he stole something when we meet him……..:) yea im bad i know.
then there is julia, shes very pretty. shes a young girl with a boyfriend who is madly in love with her. when he asks her to marry him, she gets as scared as harrison with his try outs.
last there is penny, shes a black mother who works hard at night, but she really loves her kids and hates to go out. she does two things here that are important to remember later in the movie. sing and leave the kids with some one. this isnt too much of a spoiler, its just important to the plot of the movie.
they all get on this one bus, with a young couple with a very pregnant wife. ![]()
and away we go………
The bus crashes because of the goofy driver, and out friends becomes ghosts. but instead of heading off to heaven, we see them sitting on top of the bus as you hear a baby being born. fast forward a view years. our friends are still here, but they are stuck to the baby thomas that was born at the moment of their deaths. they are with him as he grows up, drawn to him like a magnet. (at one point, just like one which makes for a funny bit.) Thomas winds up talking and interacting with them all, but of course only he can see or hear them. which worries his parents. the ghost decide it’s best if they all sat goodbye and become invisible to thomas. which is THE SADDEST SCENE IN ANY
fast forward……
it is years later and thomas has grown up into a real jerk face of a businessman. he goes to places and shuts down companies left and right, all the time dragging the ghost along. thomas also has a girl friend that wants to be maried. but thomas, although he loves her; wont comit. at the last closing down of a company something odd happens. the bus from the crash shows up, and only the ghost can see it. the bus driver, the one from the crash steps out and asks them. “okay, you ready to go?”
it turns out, the bus driver is a angel, or ghost; sent back to earth to take them up to heaven. the time they had here was to get their stuff done and life resolved before they left. they had no idea of this, but he tells them they have one last chance and that they need the help of thomas. well……let’s remember the crying little boy sitting in the middle of the bed. don’t think he’s going to want to help out do you?? nopes.
the rest of the movie deals with how they get him to help each one of them resolve things in thier lives. things they meant to say or do before they died. each one is funny, sad, and romantic at the same time. and they all start to help thomas in his own realationship.
i really love this movie! it has everything i like in it. and robert dwoney jr is very good.
what i like the most is how all of thier lives and stories all fit together, and how it effected each of them in someway. also this movie taught me something important. you need to take chances in life, you need to love your friends and your family and let them know how much. bit you also have to sieze the moments in life. because you may not get the chance to again, and there you’d be always wish you turned left when you turned right. ect.
you guys would love this movie. and its been out a long time, so you can find it everywhere. its safe for anyone, so do like me and jenny. pops some popcorn, snuggle up on the sofa, pop this in and have tissues near by.
