Posted on 2008 under Movie Reviews | No Comment26 Dec
okay as i said before in my last posting, we are doing a movie marathon these two days of Christmas! we well be watching twelve movies like i said, we all picked four each. ![]()
now the ones dad and jenny picked are ones i never seen before, so I am discovering them too. I know some people that read this are from other countries, so maybe these will be new to you too. hope so. okay let’s get started with one of dad’s favorites, that classic……the pest.
no? ummm okay. let’s see, maybe it was this one. Ernest scared stupid? no huh? hehehe, okay, okay the real one.
Sneakers.
From the back of the box: Robert Redford leads an all star cast in one of the most satisfying suspense films. Computer expert Martin Bishop heads a team of renegade hackers, including a CIA employee (Sidney Poitier) a gadgets wizard, (Dan Aykroyd), a young genius, (River Phoenix) and a blind soundman (David Strathairn). Who are routinely hired to test security systems. But Bishop’s past comes back to haunt him when government agents blackmail the sneakers into carrying out a covert operation. Tracking down an elusive black box, Along with his former girlfriend, (Mary Mcdonnel), Bishop’s team retrieves the box and makes a stunning discovery, the device can creak into any computer system in the world. With fractions from all sides willing to kill for the powerful box, Bishop and his team embark on their most dangerous assignment ever in this exhilarating high tech caper from director Phil Alden Robinson (Field of dreams)
This movie was so much fun, and very funny! When the movie first starts, Robert Redford and his friend, played by Ben Kingsley: are in college. They have somehow hacked into corrupt politicians accounts and are transferring money over to charities. After a while they get hungry and Robert Redford is chosen to make a pizza run in the middle of the night in winter. When he can’t get the van started, the police show up and arrest his friend. Leaving him to hide in the van until they are gone.
Years later, he has a team like it was stated above; that go into banks and different places. Checking all of the security systems, the computers and even the guards to see how good things are. They get so good that they are approached by two real shady guys from, “The Government”; although you really don’t know who they really are. They ask them to find this black looking box, offering to erase all of their records of crimes they have done. (the black box looks like a answering machine btw, hehe.) When they finally get it, they realize it’s something very dangerous. If you have a web address to anything, no matter what it is, you can get in and mess things up. National Air Traffic Control, National Power Grid, anything. If this fell into the wrong hands………well you get the idea.
I had so much fun watching this movie, it had everything! there was mystery, who is this guy that wants this box so bad? There was action, a blind guy drives a van!!!!! There was suspense, Robert Redford has to walk across a room one inch every minute, being very quite and keeping his body temperate the same at all times. There was comedy, A BLIND GUY DRIVES A VAN!!! And there were things you never knew before, like did you know the same guys that shot Kennedy were the ones that framed Pete Rose? hehehe.
This movie also had great actors, River Phoenix who was really good and very sad he is gone. And one of my grandma Mary’s favorite actors, Sidney Poitier; who was really good in a old movie called Lillie of the field. And who is very good here. Yeah the plot is a little on the thin side and not so believable I know, but hey neither was Transformers. This is a fun popcorn movie, one you can laugh with and enjoy. For everyone, there are maybe a couple words in it, but not bad at all.
This is dad’s first favorite and was a first for me. I’d watch it again, and I think you should too.
