Hi guys,
Yeps another review so soon, hehe. I been trying to do more stuff on here, I am thinking of doing a lot actually, so keep looking here. Going to start putting important things, and also some more cool stuff. It won’t all be reviews, going be about life and stuff.
Anyways…..
We went to see this over the weekend. And I liked it, well some of it. So I decided i’d share it with you and tell what I thought was the good parts and bad parts. And let you decide on whether to see it or not. I think that’s really what a review should do, not like a yahoo review where they say, that sucked; and then not say why or it will be they didnt like it because it wasn’t what they thought it was going to be. Dad says for me to be open and honest and let people make up their own minds. So here goes:
Race to witch mountain isn’t a remake of the orginal movie, which I never seen. This is a retelling of that story. The movie starts with news and articles about UFO sightings from all over the world. Plus there are a couple places where Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton give speeches on them, (which was kinda cool.) Then we get into the movie itself.
Jack Bruno (yeah, i know,) played by the Rock; is a ex con taxi driver struggling to make ends meet. He is highly in dept and has some people that he owes money to looking for him, The last thing he needs is more trouble. He lives in a hotel in Las Vegas where there is a Sci Fi convention and a UFO convention going at the same time. The very first fare he gets are two geeks dressed as storm troopers, which was pretty funny.
The night before all this, a UFO crash lands on earth. It is tracked and a general sends out people to find the craft and any “survivors”, his reasons are the same as it is in any of these type of films, get hands on the advanced technology to help the military. (first bad point with me, but we will get to that later.) There were in fact two survivors, a brother and a sister played by AnnaSophia Robb and Alexander Ludwig
. (like what I did??? cool huh?) They get away from the site and go into hiding. Back to jack…….
Jack’s next fare is a pretty woman who is a failed scientist that is in town making speeches on scientific theories of UFOs and outer space, keep in mind I said failed there. (second bad mark with me.) After this he is approached by the two guys he owes money too, who block his car in. Before a fight breaks out, cops come and they are forced to move the car. Jack gets in and who do you think is in the backseat this time??? Yep, our two aliens. And the race is on so to speak. He becomes involved with the kids hiding not only from this milatry, but by another alien? robot? predator? type thing called a “Siphon”, a creature built to destroy a certain target. (third mark.)
Now before you say, “Wow Darcy, all these marks so far, you must really have hated this. Nopes. I actually liked it. It’s a great weekend movie, very much a popcorn one like Transformers was. The plot wasn’t much, nether ws Transformer really. But this was a lot of action and was kinda fun. Plus the Rock, (yeah i know he likes to be called his real name; but he was the Rock first.) did pretty good at acting in this. I say pretty good, but the writing kept him back ALOT. Over all it wasn’t great, but it wasn’t bad either. Younger kids might like it more than me I guess.
Okay so now lets go back to my marks. and this is something new I am trying. Because I see these problems in a lot of movies. Lets start from my first and work our way though. The military. Wow where to begin? Okay, here is my thing. In every sci fi movie, disney or whatever, every general, sargent or whatever is exactly the same. We need to get our hands on this or that in order to use it for the military!! wow. Okay in this movie, that is this guy’s whole thing. We got to get those kids! No matter that there is this other alien robot thing that is blowing stuff up all over the place, he stays focused on just one thing and one thing only. Can we say sterotype?? why is it that is always the way?
Bad mark number two:
The goofy scientist, and women in these movies. Okay here’s my thing. She is a FAILED scientist, giving speeches on UFO’s. okay i might listen to UFO stuff, but who is going to go sit and listen to a failed scientist?? And why is it, that no matter how smart these scientist are, when faced with a real alien they get all goofy? Remember data in independece day? why not keep them smart all though a movie?
third bad mark: The alien what you call it that is after the kids. ummmmmmm, why? wasn’t the military enough? why add this? just for more special effects? Poor jack was getting beat up enough without a terminator to deal with. I just didn’t get it.
Oh and one more. We geeks and lovers of sci fi are made fun of in this, in a BIG way. hello media, we may call ourselves geeks, but we don’t all act like it. The stage play in the movie was just embarassing, to us and the bad actors doing it. Never been to a con, but i sure hope this don’t go on in them,
Over all though, not a bad movie. I liked it and had fun. I wouldn’t buy the dvd, but if you want a fun couple of hours for the whole family, this is pretty good.
