Hi guys!
I have been wanting to do a comic book review for such a long time now, it has just been tough thinking of which ones to do. I read a lot here, my Uncle Dave runs four hobby shops; both in st Louis and here. But also across the river in Illinois too! He has a ton of comics there, with new ones coming in every Tuesdays. I mostly like the funny ones, the ones like xmen and superman are so hard to keep up with. They change every new issue it seems like. I get into something and boom, they either kill someone off, or reboot the whole thing. like hollywood does with movies. So i been sticking with funny ones, manga, and some graphic novels.
So I thought I would start with one of my all time favorites, Nodwick. Nodwick is a hireling who works for three adventures, Atrax the wizard, Piffany the cleric, and Yeager the fighter. Now normally when you take on a hireling, they carry all of the stuff, hold the torches, make camp, ect. And the hireling levels up as well if you keep them, or you let them go after the questing is over. That is if the party is made up of normal characters……..ummmmm, theses guys are anything but normal. hehe. Let me introduce you to the cast.
Yeager: Yeager is a fighter taken to the extreme, hehe. He is very large, uses anything he can find to smash monster’s heads, loves beer, and treasure, or beer with treasure. He is pretty easy to please there, hehe. He pretty much uses Nodwick as guinea pig, a trap springer, food taster, you name it. He seems to treat Nodwick just terrible, but deep down he really cares about him. He isn’t very bright, been into too many fights maybe. hehe. He isn’t a bad guy, just has his mind set out two things. beer and treasure. And how to get more of both.
Artrax: Artrax is a very smart wizard, who like Yeager; loves treasure. But for a total different reason. Artrax is after knowledge, any new spell he can learn, no mater how small; he has to have. Artrax is not the greatest wizard around, but he does try hard at least. But because he is a wizard and kinda fragile; he needs something large and well armored to take any hits from monsters. That was one of the reasons he teamed up with Yeager. Of course there was that little business about one of his last party members getting fried by a lightning bolt, but hey those rainstorms can pop up anywhere. Arttrax isn’t as bad as Yeager at abusing Nodwick, but he does tend to use him for trying out new potions and things. But over all he is really a nice guy…..he has to be, because both he and Yeager have another companion; one that keeps them both in line.
Piffany: Piffany is my favorite. 
She is a lawful good cleric in EVERY sense of the word. She is kind, innocent, and is always doing good for everyone, including baking cookies for monsters. hehe. She loves all things good and sweet, like puppies, unicorns and of course beanie babies. She is always healing Nodwick and can bring him back to life, over and over again by using her magic duct tape. She is always going into a fight against anything bad or evil or just plan icky poo; but she will always try to reason with a monster first. Often making them feel really bad about being evil in the first place. Yeager and Artrax are always hiding thier mistreatment of Nodwick and their money making ideas from her. Not wanting to upset her, or getting bonked on the head by her staff.
And that leaves us with Nodwick: Poor Nodwick. Nodwick has died more than Kenny or south park, and in so many ways that he has become immortal. He has the ability to left and haul anything, sometimes showing the strength of superman. But that is only if it involves taking some object or treasure back for the party. He is way more intelligent than the rest of the group and will often be the one who comes up with ways out of a bad spot. Although he does let himself be hurt and killed a lot, but he looks at that as just part of the job. He is always in his hiring union uniform tunic and helmet, and has a very big nose. He will never allow the part to be hurt in anyway, especially Piffany; who I am thinking he is in love with.
As i said, next to Girl Genius; this is my all time favorite comic. The stories are a lot of time taken from movies or tv shows, with a twist. There was one where they had a group of highlander characters fighting in town and both Yeager and Artrax came up with a way to harness the power of the quickening for themselves that was wicked funny. The creator of the comic lives close to KC and I even got to meet him! He is a really cool person and has a great web page. He is very geeky too and I find a lot of my internet findings on his web page. Take a look.

Nodwick is a great comic that anyone can read and enjoy. Some of the jokes the adults will get more than kids I guess, but I have been reading this since I was twelve and I have not found anything that a younger person shouldn’t see or read. So make sure you guys check it out, and you can still get the beginning ones in a bundle issues. I and reading the fourth one now called Tour of Doodie, which has Nodwick standing next to a large red dragon with a shovel. hehehe. you guys will like this comic a lot.
