Darcy in SPAAAAAAAACE!
Well I was going to do a review about the Phantom mini series I saw, it was good but way bloody in parts. So I was like, no that’s not good for everyone. So I am trying to stay away from those, rather have something everyone can see and like you know?
So I found this dvd and thought, oh cool another Phantom I can write about. So lets take a trip and get back to being sci fi geeks. Let’s take a rocket ship too…..
The Phantom Planet – A dvd review by Darcy Low
From IMDB – “The mysterious appearance of an unknown planet brings miniature people, giant monsters, beautiful women and undaunted heroes to the screen. The self-contained planet “Rheton” has the ability to move in and out of galaxies to escape their enemies. Earth sends an astronaut team to investigate, which discovers miniature people. One astronaut survives to help them fight off monsters and Solorite attacks.”
This was a pretty cool old movie. When it first starts out, two Astronauts are flying alone in space when they suddenly get off course. They try, but no matter what they do they just can’t get the ship to respond. Then a large blip fills the radar screen, it’s a asteroid heading right for them!
After they lose the first rocket and the men, the military decides to send up another rocket to investigate what actually happened. All the have to go on are the first pilots last words and what they called a Phantom Planet that they crashed into. They call on Captain Frank Chapman, when they first tell him about the Planet; he laughs and thinks it’s a joke. Which makes me think he’s a jerk at first, but I guess it is hard to believe in a planet that just shows up out of nowhere.
Once he and another guy gets into space, they spend hours and find nothing at all. It’s not until they change course, (like the first rocket. duh. why didn’t they do it first off?) that’s when things really start to happen. Their ship is damaged in a meteor field and they have to go outside to fix it. (which I will say more on later.) The other man is killed when a tiny piece of a rock hits him. Captain Chapman gets knocked out himself, but he lands inside the ship. While the other guy floats away.
Later Captain Chapman wakes up and calls for the other guy. When he realizes what has happened, he makes a recording of everything. As he is passing out again, the Phantom Planet shows up and takes control of the ship. Looks like the Captain will get a chance to find out whats really going on.
The Planet itself is a small asteroid, populated by just a few people. TINY, little people. When the Captain wakes up, he is laying down. When he stands up he looks like he is ten feet tall to them, and faints away like a girl.
This is where things change and he becomes just as small as them, shrinking in his space suit. When the people come in after him, one is killed by accident and he is taken prisoner. Now what will he do? How will he ever go home? Can he even escape?
The people of the world we later find are a advance technical race that has chosen to, “Go back to simpler times and ways of life.” They tell him he can never leave and treat him okay, but as a prisoner. They even offer him tow women to choose as a wife. But he only wants to go home.
They later tell him of their enemy and ask for his help.
Will he help? Or will he help the enemy and maybe they will help him get off the tiny planet?
This was a pretty good movie. The acting wasn’t great, but was okay for a old movie. The people of the planet are different, they have a way to move the planet and hide it. The enemy aliens look a lot like creatures from the old Outer Limits show.
Overall I think you guys will like this, it’s pretty good. The one funny part was when they did the space walk, they just open up the door and walk out onto the wing! hehe, too funny.
So look for The Phantom Planet, it’s worth running into.
